Why We Fail

There is no better way to learn who we are other than reflecting on our past and look at the time we have succeeded or failed. Failure and success define our mental aptitude and it is tied to our personal belief which we learned from our childhood. Struggling in life requires revisiting past, analyzing your thinking and changing the way you think to attain the life you dream. Past cannot hold you a hostage, the willingness to change, attain greatness and contribute to this world should drive to seek the inner of who you are and align yourself with your mission to be a productive member of the society. Past mistakes cannot define your future, you should embark on addressing your past mistakes and weakness to achieve what you dream off.

Entrepreneurship is a journey of reflection; don’t be discouraged by your past failures. History like data can say a lot about your struggle. If you are embarking on a new journey of building a startup and you have tried before and failed, it is advisable to study your past failure and precisely identify the reasons why you failed. Sometimes failure requires going through our psychological make up, digging dip into our belief systems and knowing our fears. Failing create an opportunity to dissect the whole operation and search truthfulness in yourself to dissect the areas which you have to improve, failure gives you an opportunity to improve your skills, find opportunities and work on your thinking.

Don’t just assess your startup failure on point of business view. There are other indicators which can affect a viable startup to fail. Your startup is part of you, and it success depends on your belief system and psychological make up. A failed startup should not only be evaluated on business metrics only, founders have to deeply evaluate themselves and evaluate the reason of failure according to their action. Was founder too ambitious, did the founder move slow to conquer the market, did founder ignore the red flags or did he/she just quite without giving all that they had.  Part of business is psychology and as a founder of a startup you need to keep on evaluating your psychological make up to give your startup a chance of succeeding.

Starting a business requires persistence accompanied by high focus, as a founder you have to know what to do and what not to do. A successful startup can be equated to a successful founder who is persistence and has conviction on what he/she does. Failure might be an indication the founder lacked persistence and conviction of his mission.  Judge the level your persistence and conviction before quitting.

Every unsuccessful attempt is not failure. Don’t rationalize on your failure and give excuses, find out the mistakes and don’t dismiss them. Define the problem, analyze the opportunity and find why your strategy did not work. Be clear on when analyzing the problem, you ought to be open minded to accommodate different solutions. Finding why you failed give you an opportunity to create better strategies and places you on a winning path.

Be in charge, develop self-esteem and be disciplined. No one achieve anything worth without taking control of life. As a founder of a startup you have to be disciplined and be the captain of your startup. Failure requires looking at yourself in all aspects of you as a human being and identifying your mistakes and developing better strategies and creating a human development path to achieve the success and contribution you dream for.

Magnifying fear than abilities kills the dreams before they take off. A startup founder should assess the fear and try to shadow the fear with ability.  This will create a sense of confident and belief of your capability. Viable startup can fail because of haphazard decision out of fear as founders try to generate revenues and save on cost.

Not setting priorities and creating a plan for a startup can result into failures. Startup founders need to keep on accessing the plan and reviewing the priorities to gage the way forward for moving the startup to be a successful business. Accessing your past plans and priorities can help in identifying why you failed in the past.

It is not whether you will fail or not, it is about how faster you can get up and keep on moving. Success is not offered on silver plate, there are moments in pursuance of your goal, life will deal a wrong card. Past failure should not keep you from pursuing your ideal life.
